Art & Psychology

The most difficult child I ever taught was quite talented artistically. I remember the day I became quite excited about what he was drawing, only to see the beautiful images suddenly coloured over with black. I asked him what he was doing. He had told me it was an aeroplane shadow.

One of my colleagues had pointed out that she had seen an exhibition of similar paintings, done by schizophrenics. Labelling children with mental illnesses is not generally considered acceptable so we did nothing about this observation.
