I love this scene where the teacher confronts and challenges the class. I have been similarly blunt with students for the same kinds of reasons. I am not interested in having to learn how to teach in a way that is more acceptable to people here. Re-education is always an aim in restrictive societies.
I see sites these days that get children to rate teachers and think they miss the point. I do not imagine any teacher would come away from this type of bruising encounter(Freedom Writer’s) with a high rating. Teaching is not popularity contest. Yet this is exactly the kind of teacher, who saves lives.
