Genealogy & Trauma

Reposting Genealogy & Trauma

it would seem than an interest in both genealogy and trauma would not be particularly compatible. However evidence has suggested to me, both personal and scientific, that there is indeed a connection. The gateway to much toxic abuse would seem to be trauma.

Family trauma may create a vulnerability which may then be exploited by toxic individuals, perhaps going back hundreds of years. Some consider genealogy just an entertaining hobby. However I believe, genealogy can be life-changing. Genealogy can provide an opportunity for both family growth and healing. Negative family patterns can be recognised and understood. It is my belief that family lines can repeat the same mistakes on a never-ending cycle, until somebody has the courage to confront and try to deal with them.

If you don’t know history, you don’t know anything. You are a leaf that doesn’t know it is part of a tree.
