I Vote With My Feet

I have found myself on the receiving end of prejudice, repeatedly. I have been judged for the way I speak, the way I have raised my children etc etc etc. It is horrible. I have tended to walk away from shops, schools individuals concerened and to leave them to God.

Matthew 10:14

If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet.

I think the best way to deal with negative behaviour or prejudice of any kind is to

Vote with your feet.


Those of us who have dealt with toxic behaviour, eventually learn that attempting to reason with certain types of people, is about as effective as my experience of canoeing upstream. I think it is Oprah who says, we teach people with our actions and not our words. Here is an interesting article by Dr Phil on the subject.


If people are rude, ignorant or prejudiced towards me these days, they generally do not get a second chance. I walk away. I stopped using my favourite craft store as a direct consequence of rudeness, I had encountered while shopping there. Yes I had missed it but  my self respect was more important to me, than any craft supplies.

I know I  appeared to tolerate a toxic partner for a time, but it is a long and complicated story. I have learned that walking away and turning your back can be extremely challenging and is often much harder than it looks.

I am in the process right now of wiping my feet and walking away. It is a bit intimidating but it is also a huge relief. I know God has a place for us and I can assure you that unlike Lot’s wife, I WILL NOT BE LOOKING BACK.
