Fountain Hughes, the former slave captured my imagination, so I have felt compelled to discover a little more about him.
Currently I have been trying to discover the father of Fountain Hughes. I note that I have discovered a Fountain Hughes on the Union side in the 48th Pennysylvania Regiment who was captured at Big Shanty and sent to Rock Island. Fountain Hughes mentions that his father had been killed in the Civil War.
